A look back at 2014

2014 went by pretty quickly.  Here are a few things, good and bad, that I remember (which isn't much since I have the worst memory) from this year....

Vacation at Disney World with 3 Disney virgins.

Attended Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on a separate trip to Disney World.

Visited at least 7 different wineries.

Saw Miley Cyrus in concert.

Spent a lot of time at my parent's house doing landscaping and packing them up.

Packed a truck and moved my parents 12 (driving) hours away.

Attended a (straight) wedding in Alabama.

Visited the Birmingham Zoo.

Got drunk in an apple orchard and had an apple fight.

Discovered Rotisserie Chicken Salad from Kroger.

Had a some scary dental work.

Babysat for an adorable little baby girl.

Took 3 classes in the spring, 1 summer class, and 2 classes in the fall.

Decided to move (2015 date pending).

Attended a Pure Romance Party (adult toys).

Found some new hiking trails.

Went swimming in a water hole.

Attended the funeral of a childhood friend.

Cooked my first turkey (and didn't kill anyone with salmonella).

Lost 15lbs, then gained it back (thanks to Christmas cookies).

And finally, I got engaged on Christmas Day.

So I'd say I had a pretty good year!  Here's to making 2015 even awesome-er!

Listography: My 5 Resolutions

It's that time of the year....the end to be exact....when we decide on New Year's Resolutions.  Here are my 5.

Quit Smoking:  I quit in August for 2 months but it didn't stick.  So I'm trying it again starting January 2nd.

Lose Weight/Make Healthy Choices:  This is probably the most common resolution.  I'm going to make mine measurable by setting a goal of 50 lbs.

Blog more:  Blogging is rather cathartic.  I definitely need to do not only more but more in quality.

Read more:  I like to read but I don't get much time to do so between work and school.  I'm big in to YA books and have read the most famous series:  Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent, and Delirium.  I've read Pawn by Amiee Carter and want to finish the Blackcoat Rebellion series (Captive and Queen) and finish the Matched trilogy by Allison Condie (Matched (which I've read), Crossed, and Reached).  Please suggest some more YA series for me!!!

Get off my damn phone:  I spend too much time on my phone.  I use social media, go on Wikipedia train rides, and play Sudoku (a lot).  I need to be more in the now with those around me and enjoy the human interaction.

Well, I think that sums it up for my resolutions.  What are yours?

Engagement

Last week I began a post about the Do's and Don't's of proposing and low and behold I got proposed to on Christmas.  Yay!  But what pisses me off is everyone that we tell asks when the wedding is going to be.  I suppose I shouldn't get mad, people are curious, but can't we just be engaged?  We don't have to have a U-haul wedding.

TMI Tuesday - December 30, 2014

tmi 2014_2015 sign
1. It’s the end of 2014. How do you feel? Excited? Eager to see what’s in store for the new year?  Feeling pretty good I guess.  2015 is going to be a big year;  I graduate in May; and I plan to move.
2. On a scale of 1-10 how satisfied were you with 2014? How satisfied were you with your sex life in 2014? (1 = completely disappointed, 10 = extremely satisfied)  I hate assigning numbers to things!  Let's go with a 7-ish.
3. What were your big accomplishments this year?  Made it through another school year.
4. Did you make new year’s resolutions at the beginning of year 2014? How many did you keep?  I don't remember making any but I'm pretty sure that if I did it was health related.
5. Out of all that happened in 2014, what are the biggest lessons you learned?  I think I learned that no matter how nice or good a friend you are, not everybody is going to be nice or a good friend to you.  Take everything with a grain of salt and try to be a good person no matter what happens.
6. What are you most proud of in 2014?  Finished another semester at school and did well grade wise.  Isn't this the same thing as 2014 accomplishments?
7. How did you spend the majority of your free time in 2014?  In case you haven't read any of the other questions....I spent most of my free time doing school work....oh and at wineries.  Lots of wineries.
8. Tell us something new you’d like to do or learn in 2015.  Graduate!

Happy New Year!

Bonus: How was your sex life in 2014?
a. Great
b. Good
c. Not bad

d. It’ll do
e. What’s sex?!
b & c - I have the sex drive of a man so I can always have more

How would you rate 2014?  Check out what others said at TMI Tuesday Blog.

Engaged!

I got engaged over the Christmas break!  Excuse the dry hands and rough nails.

The Night before Christmas ...... which is called Christmas Eve

Well, it's Christmas Eve and people are scrambling to get those last minute gifts.  A lot of places are closing early today, although I don't know when the big-box stores will close up shop.  Thankfully I'm done.  I think.  I'm ready to not have anything to do.  No school, no work, no shopping, no visiting friends, nothing.  I plan to sit my happy fat ass on the couch this weekend and not move unless it involves stuffing my face or peeing.  You know, the essential functions.  Will that happen?  Probably not, but a girl can dream, right?

The plan tonight is to get in to our Christmas jammies and watch something festive.  Maybe read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas....T and the roomie probably won't be in to it, but whatever.

Fun facts about 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

It's original title was 'A Visit from Saint Nicholas'.
Anonymously published in 1823.
After 14 years a Clement Clarke Moore claimed to be the author.
Henry Livingston Jr.(or rather his family) has also claimed to be the original writer.
This poem established the modern description of Saint Nick and how he traveled the world.
In 2012 the poem was modified to edit out St. Nick's pipe smoking.

In case you don't have your own copy I've posted the famous poem below.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave a lustre of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the housetop the coursers they flew
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too—
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack.
His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Conversations with bankers

I go to two different banks for work.

Bank 1
Me:  (as I'm leaving) Thank you.  Merry Christmas.  Bye.
Bank 1 Banker:  So long!

So long?  What does that even mean?

Bank 2
Me:  (I pull up to the drive through window)
Bank 2 Banker:  Uh, we closed at noon.  It's been posted for two weeks.
Me:  Ok, thanks (Grinch)!

Maybe she just realized that she's been a Grinch all year and Santa won't be visiting her house.

LinkedIn Photo

In case you don't know what LinkedIn is, it's like Facebook but for business related things instead of social things.  You post your employment and school information and connect with people you know.  Once you connect they can write recommendations about you and your work.  It's a great place for job seekers and to maintain a profile even if you aren't job searching.  So I'm going through the connections (like FB's friend suggestions) to see if there is anyone I can add.  A picture of yourself can only help your profile as it adds credibility.  BUT...Here's a helpful tip for you folks.....your profile picture should NOT be of you wasted laying on a couch surrounded by beer cans.  (I seriously just saw that profile picture.)  Just helping you out there.

Listography - Top 5 Christmas Movies

3 days until Christmas and I haven't finished shopping.  Big surprise!  So to distract from my inability to get it together it's time for my Top 5 Christmas Movies.

The Holiday
Starring: Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, & Jack Black
Two ladies, unlucky in love, decide to do a home exchange over Christmas.  The Londoner goes to L.A.  The L.A.er goes to London.

The Family Stone
Staring:  Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, one of the Wilson boys, along with some other mildly famous people
A guy brings his uptight girlfriend to meet his progressive and free spirited family, during the holidays.

The Muppet Christmas Carol
Starring:  Michael Caine and the Muppets
Charles Dickens classic Christmas Carol but with puppets (and a few humans) and some catchy tunes.

Scrooged
Starring:  Bill Murray and the screechy guy from the Police Academy Movies (Bobcat Goldthwait)
Another version of Dickens famous tale.  Updated and filmed in 1988.  Since that was 26 years ago it's a little dated.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Starring:  Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Juliette Lewis, and Leonard from the Big Bang Theory (Johnny Galecki)
The Griswold Family spends Christmas at home with a few unpleasant guests.

And don't forget TBS's annual 24-hour straight showing of A Christmas Story.

What are your favorite Christmas movies?

Conversations with Mom

Me:  I tried calling earlier but the answering machine didn't pick up so I figured you were on the phone.
Mom:  Yeah, the phone kept making this weird noise.  I didn't know what it was.  Was that you calling with call waiting?
Me:  Yes mom, that was call waiting.

Let me postface this conversation with a few notes....
1.  My mother is NOT tech savvy.
2.  My parents used the same home telephone service for years.  They had just the basic service, no voicemail (they still have an answering machine), no call waiting (callers would get the busy sound), no three way calling.  It was a HUGE deal when we got Caller ID 20 years ago.
3.  My parents just moved several states away and had to get a new telephone service which included call waiting.

Gift Ideas for your (Lesbian) Girlfriend

The gift giving season is here (technically every season is a gift giving season).  Time to go shopping for your favorite lesbian, your girlfriend (well I hope that's your favorite lesbian).  She's clammed up and won't answer when you ask her what she wants.  You're panicking and you begin to sweat at the thought of picking out the perfect gift.  That's me right now.  Never fear!  Here are some gift ideas for your special lady. (To be fair these are not gender, sexual orientation, or holiday specific gift ideas.)

For your sports loving girlfriend:  favorite team jersey, tickets to a football/basketball/soccer/softball game (check your closest college or university sports schedule for tickets that are less expensive than professional sports), license plate holder or team sticker for their car

For your music loving girlfriend:  concert tickets, tickets to hear a local band play, iTunes credits, headphones, an acoustic guitar, music lessons, sheet music

For your coffee loving girlfriend:  Keruig, Keruig pods (maybe a sample pack so she can try different flavors), mugs, thermal coffee cups (Starbucks has one you can decorate the insert of the cup that displays on the outside)

For your wine loving girlfriend:  Wine glasses, wine glass charms, bottle stoppers, wine pours, a really nice bottle of wine (duh), a wine of the month club, wine rack, wine cooler, a tasting from a local winery, winery tour

For your food loving girlfriend:  a new set of knives, a new pan, cookbook, fondue pot, cooking classes, a picnic set, dinner and a movie

For your gamer or tech loving girlfriend:  A gaming system, new game, gaming subscription, extra charger for her phone/tablet/laptop etc., a new accessory for her phone/tablet/laptop etc., a game rental subscription, wireless mouse, new mouse pad

For your book loving girlfriend:  A new book, kindle/nook, book credits, bookmarks, bookshelf

For your smoke loving girlfriend:  a new vapor system, vape system accessories, cloves, a new pipe, nice cigar

For your exercise loving girlfriend:  gym bag, water bottle, weights, workout headphones, jump rope, yoga mat, workout towel

For your movie loving girlfriend:  dinner and a movie, movie theater tickets, dvd book, a movie, add a movie to her collection (i.e. does she like gay themed, Christmas, or Alfred Hitchcock movies?  Find a movie she doesn't already own to add to her collection.), Netflix subscription

For your animal loving girlfriend:  Horseback riding lessons, trail ride, framed a picture of her dog/cat/bird/lizard/whatever kind of animal she has, dog biscuit making kit.  On a side note....DO NOT give animals as gifts.  An animal can be a lot of work and will be considered a lifelong member of the family.  The animal should be selected with great thought and you must be sure that everyone in the family wants and will get along with the animal.  DO NOT buy animals, adopt from a local shelter such as the SPCA or Humane Society.

Gift ideas for any girlfriend or your girlfriend who doesn't fall in to the above categories:
Massage
Mani/Pedi
A weekend getaway
A weekend staycation where you do absolutely nothing
If it's your first Christmas together get her a "our first Christmas" ornament (I wish I had done this)
A tree ornament that means something to her
Perfume/Cologne
Wallet (be sure to include a piece of money for good luck)
Car cleaning (outside and or inside)
Underwear/Lingerie
A complete outfit
Candles or Wax warmer
Bath stuff (bath pillow, bath bombs, bubble bath etc.)
Christmas Jammies (get matching ones and have them open it on Christmas Eve)
Love plan (like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days)
Personal Coupons:  Massage, foot rub, romantic dinner, romantic bath, grocery run,

And then there's jewelry.  Just make sure it's something she'll wear.  Look at what she already has to get a general idea of colors and styles.  Consider engraving something plain.

Did these gift ideas help?  What are you getting your significant other?

Listography: 5 Christmas Songs I Hate

Last week I posted the my top 5 favorite Christmas songs.  While I generally try to stay positive, well at least that's what I tell myself, this week I'm posting the 5 Christmas songs I hate.  Here we go....

Christmas Shoes by the Christian band New Song
I think I'm the only Christmas music liker who hates this song.  A dirty kid can't afford to buy shoes for his mom who is about to die.  Pretty depressing for a Christmas song.  I know there's a higher meaning of thinking of others instead of ourselves but I just don't like this song.

Hands by Jewel
Our local radio station that turns to playing all Christmas music on the day after Thanksgiving thinks that this song is a Christmas song.  It's not.  And it's awful.

I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus by the Jackson 5
It's kind of creepy that little Michael is watching his mom make out with Santa.  And seems excited about it.  Then he turns out to be a tattletale.  No one likes a tattletale.

All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth by Spike Jones & his City Slickers
No.

Wonderful Christmastime
Don't get me wrong, I love Paul McCartney but this song makes me want to drown myself.  How many times does he have to say "Simply having a wonderful Christmastime"?  Who ever wrote this song needs to be tarred and feathered.

Honorable mention...well sort of.... any Christmas song by Celine Dion or Mariah Carey.  A lot!  Unfortunately I like All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah.  Why couldn't it be sung by anyone else?  At this years annual tree lighting event at Rockefeller Center Mariah sand All I want for Christmas is you.  And it was not good.  At all.  Furthering the proof that she's just a drama queen, a hack, and can't really sing without being dubbed over or altered in some way.
Below is that spectacle.  You're welcome.

What Christmas songs do you hate?

School's out for Summer...eh I mean Christmas.

Life got busy there for a minute.  I had exams but I am now done for the semester.  B in Accounting and A in my Advance Computer Technology class.  Generally I'm a straight A student but I'm totally okwith a B in Accounting.  That shit was fucking hard.  Yes, it was so awful that it warranted the foul language.  Pretty sure I need to get Accounting for Dummies to read over Christmas break.  One more semester with two classes:  Accounting II and Financial Management, and then I am DONE!  I can't wait. Two hard classes for my last semester...FML!

Best friends 4 eva

Last month I revealed that I loved Rebel Wilson.  Comedic genius.  But for being a dramatic actress Jennifer Lawrence is pretty fucking funny.  And hot!  Watch this super funny (and super long) clip of her 2014 funniest moments.

She's so awesome.  She's totally going to be my best friend.

Marky Mark is a Good Person Now

I guess now is as good a time as any to have a current affairs/pop culture opinion piece.

Recently, actor Mark Wahlberg, aka Marky Mark of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, has requested a pardon for a felony crime he committed during 1988 in Massachusetts.  You can read the full Yahoo! Celebrity article HERE.  This crime, which followed numerous racial harassment charges throughout his teenage years, included assault and he was sentenced to some prison time.   After doing a little research I discovered that a Pardon is a forgiveness from the state and restores any felony based restrictions but does not erase the crime or remove it from your record.  There has been speculation as to why he's requesting this pardon such as to detract from an upcoming poor performing movie or to gain an ABC license for a restaurant.   He claims the pardon request comes from turning his life around and has worked hard to become a positive role model for kids growing up in disadvantaged areas.  In the Yahoo! Celebrity article Marky Mark is quoted as saying

"I've worked really hard to be a positive influence for kids growing up in communities like mine who don't really have a chance, to try to provide them an opportunity to be successful and so that's why I'm doing it."

I call BULLSHIT!

I don't know what his motive might be but it certainly isn't because 'I'm a good person now'.  He is essentially waiving his fame and money around saying 'I'm famous, I have money, and therefore I'm going to use that to get whatever I want'.  Seems a bit insensitive to me.  Shouldn't he be putting the time and money he is wasting on the pardon request, on those people he is so desperately trying to not be like?  Use that money to support people who can't get jobs because of their (non-violent) felonies.  Do something more productive and a little less self centered.
.

No matter how old how he or I get he'll always be that bad boy from the movie Fear (warning....this video has adult material).

And he'll always be Marky Mark.....(warning this video has some really bad 90's fashion statements).

Listography - My Top 5 Christmas Songs

I love Christmas.  Well, I used to love Christmas.  I guess I still do it's just that I've had some really bad Christmases in the past which have kind of worn me down on the the Christmas cheer thing.  Plus this will be my first Christmas away from all family and it will just be us.  Which is totally cool, it's just different.
The day after Thanksgiving one of our local radio stations begins to play only Christmas music through the day after Christmas.  I love Christmas music, which has inspired this weeks Listography.  My top 5 Christmas Songs.  Generally I like the old classic songs but I've heard some good new stuff recently too.  Take it away....

5.  Rockin Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee

4.  Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms

3.  Last Christmas by Wham! and an updated version by Taylor Swift

2.  Baby it's Cold Outside by Margaret Whiting & Johnny Mercer (Updated version by Idina Menzel (Maureen from Rent) & Michael Buble)

And drum roll please..............  My number 1 favorite Christmas song is

1.  Dominick the Italian Christmas Donkey
Go ahead, you can laugh, but this song is AWESOMESAUCE!
I'm not sure why, but it is.  Just deal with it.

What are your favorite Christmas songs?

T - minus 2 weeks

Two weeks from today is Christmas day.  If I wasn't so swamped with school work I'd be in panic mode.  I've purchased 2 gifts.  Yes, two weeks until Christmas and I've only purchased 2.  This is not good.  Guess I'll start to scramble once my exam is over.
I used to be an AWESOME gift giver but these last two years (all special occasions included) I've really sucked at it.  Not sure what's up with me...I could blame it on school....guess I need to step it up.  Stay tuned to find out what I end up gifting!

I'm still here....well at least I think so

Sheesh!  It has been one hell of a week.  My semester is winding down and I'm swamped with finishing things up and studying for finals.  Well just one final in accounting.  Looks like I am going to be chained to my book for the next week, hammering in as much as I can before I dump it all out on the exam next week.  My other class is online and the teacher hasn't kept up with grading things on a regular basis, which has benefited us because since she is so far behind in grading she slacked off the last to weeks and only assigned us half the assignments scheduled and decided against giving us a final project.  Whoop whoop!  I'm good with that, no complaints here.

2 more classes left, Accounting 2 and Financial Management, and then I'm done.  Can. Not. Wait!

The Questions Lesbians Get

These are actual comments and questions I've heard...

You're gay?  But you don't look gay.

Are you sure you aren't gay?

Have you just not found the right guy?

Did some guy hurt you?

Which one is the man in the relationship?

Do you know Ellen?  How about my hairdresser, do you know him?

You're not going to go to Heaven.

Can I watch?

Your dog ate what?

We (and when I say we I mean T) recently (and when I say recently I mean in the past 3 months) adopted a dog from the SPCA.  We (and when I say this we it's supposed to mean we but ended up meaning me) didn't want to get another dog since the current dog we have, Sassy a Jack Russell, is getting pretty old and we wanted her to live out the remainder of her days/months/years in peace and benefiting from being an only dog.  Well T made an instant connection to this dog and somehow weaseled her way in to our little family.  Her name at the SPCA was Jennifer (Jennifer is not a dog name) and we renamed her Penny.  She is a Jack Russel mix.
Sassy                                   Penny (with Sassy in the background)

Originally we separated the two when no one was home.  But as time moved on and they warmed up (and by warmed up I meant they could sit on the same piece of furniture without killing each other) we left them out to freely roam the house.  Last week they must have gotten in to some kind of scuffle when no one was home because Sassy had a wound on her snout and under her chin.  Poor Sassy milked the shit out of her injuries and soaked up all the extra attention.  So we went back to separating them when they were alone.  Sassy would stay in the living room and Penny was confined to the bedroom.  Penny was not happy.  At.  All.  She was so mad she ate the crotch out of my underwear (nothing else, just the crotch) and a belt.

This was an adult size belt and this is what remains of said belt.  That belt didn't have a chance.

Underwear I get I guess almost all dogs love underwear, but a belt?  How in the hell is a belt appetizing or appealing?  It must have been good to have gotten that much of a belt down with only a small bowl of water and no fork or knife.  Needless to say, a week later and she's still pooping it out.

Dropping Panties

I don't know about you but I often re-wear clothing.  If it doesn't get dirty why not?  We know you do so just fess up now.  And like me, you probably have a piece of furniture in your room that you lay said clothing over to prevent them from getting wrinkly before your next wearing.  I have a straight back chair.  Currently it has a sweat shirt, yoga pants, and a bra laying neatly across it.

On Saturday I wore a pair of jeans out to dinner.  They didn't get dirty, so I carefully laid them out over the chair for wrinkle free safekeeping. On Sunday I put on the already once worn pair of jeans to run my errands.  I went to Walmart, Target, and got gas.  I came home, put the cold groceries away and then took one of the dogs on a walk.  Upon returning home and putting away the remaining groceries I felt a little tickle on my leg.  I began to panic a little bit thinking there may be some sort of insect or rodent in my pants (in hindsight the likelihood of a rodent in my pants was very slim).  I shook out my pants leg with vigor hoping to kill whatever was in there.  And then a pair of underwear fell out of my pants leg.  I had shook with a vengeance and killed a pair of Victoria Secret black thongs.  WTF?!
A,  Had I worn the pants all day with the underwear stuck in the leg and not noticed?
B.  Had I worn the pants on two separate occasions and not felt the hitchhiking panties?
Either they are really sneaky or I apparently have limited feeling in my legs.  At least I didn't walk around all day with a pair of panties stuck on the back of my sweater or in a bunch.

Listography - Top 5 Films on Netflix

I hate/love to admit that I was on the benefiting end of a company unknowingly giving away their services.  For years I got 100+ cable television channels for their Basic 10 channel package price.  Well...it was eventually caught and those delicious channels were ripped from my plate.  At least they didn't back date the charges.  But this meant no more Little House on the Prairie or 9000 Kids and Counting (a nod to the Duggar family - who are anti-gay).  So I am forced to watch local channels, which thankfully have some decent shows, and Netflix.  I LOVE movies.  I can watch a movie over and over and over and over and over and, you get the point, again.  I'll pretty much watch anything except for horror.  I can do classic horror like Amityville, Poltergeist, and Rosemary's Baby, but I am nowhere to be found when it comes to this crap that's coming out these days.  No thank you!

Taking a cue from Kate Takes 5's Listography:  Top 5 Films on Netflix, here you go.....

Movie descriptions from Netflix will be "italicized and in quotes" so you know that Netflix gets credit for the blurb.

1.  Sliver Linings Playbook - "After a stint in a mental hospital, Pat moves in with his parents and tries to win back his wife, until he meets a woman who's as unstable as he is"
Saw this movie in a film class at school.  Laughed and cried and laughed and cried.  More so because it really hit home.  Glad to see films depicting bi-polar disorder in a more human way.

2.  Hugo - "A 12-year-old orphan takes up residence behind the walls of a Parisian train station, where he meets a girl who holds the key to his destiny."
This is a beautiful movie.  The colors are rich and the photography is stunning!  It also has Borat (Sasha Baron Cohen).

3.  Side Effects - "When a young wife's depression spirals out of control due to her husband's prison release, she turns to a new medication that alters her life forever."
What?  Crazy twists and turns you never saw coming.

4.  Albert Nobbs - "A woman disguised as a man and working in a posh 19th-century hotel reconsiders her charade when a handsome painter arrives on the scene"
I really enjoyed this movie.  It isn't flashy or have loads of special effects but a story of a human doing whatever it takes to feel comfortable in their own skin and get by in a society where being transgendered hadn't been given a name.

5.  Flowers in the Attic - "After an accident leaves them fatherless, four children move into their mother's family mansion, where they are imprisoned by their evil grandmother."
Oldie but a goodie.  Don't ask me why I like this movie because I don't have an answer.  The acting is horrible and the make-up and wigs are ridiculous.  Yet I'm drawn to the bizarre story line.
